Mental health services we offer
Treatment programs at South Strand Medical Center provide crisis intervention and stabilization in a supportive setting. Our treatment methods include medication management, individual, group and family therapies, classes in coping skills and a wide range of therapeutic activities.
Our program offers a safe, caring and comprehensive environment with services that include:
- Family sessions
- Group therapy sessions with master’s level therapists
- Medication management
- One-on-one therapy sessions with a psychiatrist
- Structured therapeutic recreation groups
Acute inpatient behavioral health program
Our 22–bed adult inpatient unit offers specialized care, such as cognitive therapy and individualized psychotherapy. We provide treatment in a safe, therapeutic environment with 24/7 access to psychiatric and medical professionals.
Our psychiatric team specializes in treating people facing:
- Anxiety disorders
- Bipolar disorder
- Depression
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Suicidal thoughts or tendencies
- Thought disorders, including schizophrenia and psychosis
Acute inpatient care focused on women's health
We also have an acute inpatient program designed to address the specific needs of women. This program is led by female therapists who use evidence-based techniques to help women deal with difficult life issues, including:
- Forming healthy relationships
- Managing emotions
- Sexuality
- Trauma
Group sizes in this program are kept small to help foster feelings of comfort and safety during sessions. During group sessions, individuals learn healthy coping techniques, such as cognitive restructuring and emotional regulation.
Discharge planning and recovery
Aftercare planning is a critical part of the treatment process. Our team works with each patient to develop a plan that meets their long-term goals. Sessions for family members are available, when needed, to help them understand the patient's needs and provide support throughout the recovery process.
Outpatient therapy
We provide outpatient behavioral health services for teens and adults. Our outpatient programs are designed for individuals who don't need inpatient care but require a more structured program than individual therapy alone.
The outpatient program is led by licensed therapists, psychiatrists and nurse practitioners who help individuals cope with the following:
- Crisis management
- Depression and/or anxiety
- Grief or loss
- Management of daily living skills
- Medication management
- Self-injury
- Trauma
Adolescent intensive outpatient program (IOP)
Our adolescent IOP offers an intermediate level of care for teens who are 13 to 17 years old. The program provides short-term, intensive programming that allows individuals to participate in school and community activities. We help teens develop new tools to manage and resolve the practical challenges of everyday life.
Our adolescent IOP includes:
- Behavioral life skills training
- Cognitive behavioral therapy
- Dialectical behavioral therapy
- Family-centered participation one evening weekly
- Interpersonal effectiveness skills building
- Medication management when needed
- Psychiatrist evaluation
- Structured group therapy with a licensed clinician three evenings weekly
Our program hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
Adult intensive outpatient program (IOP)
Our IOP program integrates the latest clinical research validated by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to provide adults with new tools to master the challenges of everyday life.
Our patients participate in therapeutic groups that provide peer support and accountability. The treatment groups are facilitated by licensed therapists and designed to help participants address the challenges they face in life.
Our adult IOP provides a variety of structured therapies, including:
- Cognitive behavioral therapy
- Dialectical behavioral therapy
- Interpersonal effectiveness training
- Life skills
- Trauma-informed therapy
Our adult IOP meets Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30am to 11:30am and 12:00pm to 3:00pm. Participants attend four sessions a week. All patients are admitted to our adult IOP on a voluntary basis.
Adult partial hospitalization program (PHP)
The goal of our adult PHP is to empower each person to develop effective strategies that will help them achieve emotional wellness. We teach new ways to cope with stress, anxiety and depression.
Our partial hospitalization program is designed to help patients who:
- Are 18 years old or older
- Are experiencing behavioral or emotional difficulties
- Are stepping down from a psychiatric hospitalization or are at risk of psychiatric hospitalization
- Have symptoms of depression, anxiety or other obstacles when functioning in everyday situations
- Need support to achieve stabilization
- Need to develop coping skills, help managing stress and/or help achieving goals
Adult PHP treatments
We use evidence-based treatment grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) interventions. Treatments we offer include:
- Daily safety planning
- Evidence-based recovery
- Group, individual and family interventions
- Life skills practice opportunities
- Medication management
- Patient-centered goal setting and treatment planning
- Psychiatric consultation
Our adult PHP hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 3:00pm.
